13 years ago I was flying home from a vacay (can’t remember from where) but I remember when I landed hearing about the plane crash of John Jr, Carolyn and her sister. It was so tragic, and my heart still goes out to Carolyn’s mother who lost 2 daughters that day. What I want to remember here is how I felt about Carolyn.
When I saw her in that simple, beautiful sheath of a wedding dress, marrying the most eligible bachelor of all time, I thought, this girl is it! Not only that, she had what I call – an “aristocratic” nose. Her nose was amazing! And the fact that she never had it fixed meant that she, too, knew that it was amazing. She was all legs, hair, and that fabulous nose.
Carolyn would have been the hippest of moms. She was chic, thin, and beautiful, but not in a traditional sense. She was beautiful in that East coast way that I have always envied (and that was scarce as hell in the West). I also loved how John Jr. and her fought. The paps would take photos of them in torrid fights in Central Park, only to show them making up 2 days later. For me, it represented a real romance. I would read everything I could about them, and if any of what I read was true, she gave him hell. And he took it! You gotta give the girl credit.
So, for those of you too young to remember Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, here she is. Look her up and see what an icon she was; and she had only just began. The rest of us can remember what a sad loss that day brought us. She was one of a kind.
