People love art because of the way it makes them feel. Anything that can evoke emotions is powerful, but what’s even more powerful is that a single work of art can bring about different emotions in different people. What I see in a painting, you may not. More importantly, what I feel about a painting, will probably be different from what you feel. I love that humans have the ability to see differences in the same thing. It helps me to remember that while we are all different, it’s ok. Not only is it ok…it’s good. When you embrace what is different from your usual, you open yourself up to new, and sometimes better things. And, that is always good.
As you can imagine, creating any kind of art is way more difficult than it seems. If you don’t believe me, then try it yourself. First of all, it can be hard to get what’s in your head, out onto a canvas, or whatever medium you’re working with. Secondly, most artists are perfectionists, and since nothing is ever perfect, it can make creating difficult. Lastly, it takes a certain kind of courage to make something that will be displayed to the public. Some people make everything look easy, and Natasha Gray is one of those people. Not only is she impressively stylish, she’s also creative and talented. Recently, she unveiled some of her paintings, along with some other pieces by Austin artists Charlie Ferguson and Payam Sarabi.
